Intelligent design at the University of Toronto

I'm in sunny Los Angeles right now, at the bloggers' conference, but fetched this from my mailbox at home, forwarded to me by a fellow Toronto hack, David Warren. Now let's see if this posts ... :

As will be seen from the attached, warm bodies are sought for an experiment at the Medical Arts Building tonight. The experiment is to see how many can tolerate open presentations of "Intelligent Design", right in the middle of
the University of Toto.

Dear David,

It was great to have our second session on Science and Faith last week (September 29) at the Medical Sciences Building, University of Toronto. The positive feedback indicates that people really enjoyed and found it awarding and interesting.

Overall the meeting was found to be excellent by 40% of respondents and above average by 47% of respondents. 0% of respondent rated the evening as poor. 100% of respondents concurred that more sessions in the area of Science / Faith would be welcome. (Some people did suggest that the lecture was too complex in terms of technical jargon from now on this will be toned down.) See summary page included.

I am informing you our third session - which will be next week, Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 pm in the same place, University of Toronto, the Medical Science Building, Alumni Lounge, Room 3159, 1 King's College Circle.

A shorter video (of one half) hour on the Origin of the Universe, the Big Bang and a less technical commentary by myself will be offered. Refreshments will follow the video presentation. Please feel free to come and bring some friends.

I appreciate if you could let people know about this session. ...

Sincerely,
Michael Paré, MD, MSc (Neurology), BSc (Psychology)
Co-Coordinator, Science, Medicine and Faith Interest Group
Project Director, the Toronto ID Conference Committee

A number of journalists have attended so far, and are beginning to find the controversy more interesting than the spin.
If you like this blog, check out my book on the intelligent design controversy, By Design or by Chance?. You can read excerpts as well.
Blog policy note: This blog does not intentionally accept fully anonymous Comments, Comments with language unsuited to an intellectual discussion, URLs posted without comment, or defamatory statements. Defamatory statement: A statement that would be actionable if anyone took the author seriously. For example, someone may say "O’Leary is a crummy journalist"; that’s a matter of opinion and I don’t know who would care. But if they say, "O’Leary was convicted of grand theft auto in 1983," well that’s just plain false, and probably actionable, if the author were taken seriously. Also, due to time constraints, the moderator rarely responds to comments, and usually only about blog service issues.
